Laura has worked in the field of education for over twenty years in multiple districts in the Tristate area. In addition to having experience as a classroom teacher, she has served as a teacher of the gifted, a math support teacher and a math enrichment teacher. She has also worked as a curriculum specialist in the areas of writing and math. She has experience working with research scientists who were piloting in the Connecticut region the current accreditation system used for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She is certified to teach grades K-6 and work as an administrator in the state of Connecticut.
Laura is currently a doctoral student in Instructional Leadership at Western Connecticut State University. She holds a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from Sacred Heart University, a master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Bank Street College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cornell University.
Locally, Laura has served on the executive board at Children’s Adventure Center for the last ten years. She is a member of the Newtown Schools Advisory Board as well. In addition, she is an active member of Trinity Church and has served in a variety of roles there for over ten years.
Laura grew up in Ridgefield, CT and moved to Newtown in 1996, shortly after she and her husband, Doug, were married. She and her husband are the parents of two school-aged boys, ages 14 and 9. Laura supports her husband’s passion for antique Land Rovers and he her love of reading. The family can be seen around town in either a green or blue Land Rover with their yellow lab, Cassidy. Their cats, Oscar and Petey, usually prefer to stay home.
