Education:
Bachelor of Science: Elementary Education, University of Delaware

Family:
Hoping to find a balance of open spaces, close community, and a desire to be near the city, Jeff and I moved to Newtown eleven years ago. Married seventeen years, we have two sons, Douglas, a sophomore at NHS and David, a seventh grader at NMS. Both boys have benefitted from the wonderful programs run by Parks and Recreation. As a family we have enjoyed movies and recitals at Edmond Town Hall.
Our two dogs 11 ½ year old Marley and 7 month old Piper keep us busy and have “coached” both boys in soccer. These labs enjoy walking the trails at Fairfield Hills.
Experience:
In addition to teaching in Montana ( 4 years), Wyoming ( 7 years), and Connecticut(16 years) I have worked as a teacher in the education department of the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk and as the Education Coordinator at the Mattatuck Museum of Art and History in Waterbury
Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers
Like Fairfield Hills, Edmond Town Hall is soon to face restructuring as town offices relocate and one occupied spaces become available to the design of those who represent our community. Unlike Fairfield Hills which was designed as a medical institution that was located in Newtown, Edmond Town Hall was designed to support the needs of the thriving community of Newtown. Mary Hawley, Newtown’s benefactress, was involved in all aspects from development that of the building that would bear her grandfather’s name to leaving a trust fund to support the town hall.
Unlike Fairfield Hills which is a government purchase calling for a redefining of which political bodies are responsible for its design and financing, Edmond Town Hall is run by a Board of Managers who are committed solely to the maintenance of Edmond Town Hall. While government offices may signify a shift in the location of the political offices, the theater, gymnasium and performance areas remain, entrusted to the Board of Managers to maintain the ideal that Edmond Town Hall represent the heart of the community.
Like Fairfield Hills, Edmond Town Hall is an area that holds a place in the history and hearts of the public. It is more than brick and mortar; it is reminder that while we are a widespread community, we come together to celebrate a common culture. Unlike Fairfield Hills with its call for demolition and rebuilding, Edmond Town Hall offers readily available space that warrants structural change based on the needs of those soliciting quarters for their organizations. Kevin’s Community Center, Park and Recreation, and Social Services are among those who have expressed interest. According to Newtown’s charter, “The Board of Managers is composed of six members serving six year terms. At each regular Town Election, two members are elected, both of whom may not be members of the same political party. …shall have the exclusive care and maintenance of Edmond Town Hall and all grounds and buildings appurtenant thereto, together with all powers and duties prescribed for said Board by Special Act No. 98 of the 1931 session by which it was created, as amended by Special Act No. 517 of the 1953 session".
As an IPN candidate for the Board of Managers of Edmond Town Hall, I hope to serve in the fine tradition of a long line of candidates who have served their community and begin a new tradition of incorporating an independent voice to those already serving.
