Jasper Ress

My family and I have lived in Newtown since 2001, when we returned to the east coast after a few years in Chicago and southern California. I attended Newtown Middle and Newtown High School, before choosing to pursuit my education at Roger Williams University. During my 6 years in the Newtown Public School system, I also participated in Newtown’s recreational sports leagues, including baseball, basketball, and soccer. I enjoyed my time in all three sports while simultaneously volunteering at Middle Gate elementary school and working part time after school.

            At Roger Williams University I studied Political Science, and Sociology.  I participated in RWU’s intermural athletics programs, ran for student senate, and was an active member of multiple on campus clubs including the College Democrats. As a member of the college democrats I played a large role in organizing political awareness, registering young voters, and raising money for America’s soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.      

            As a board member of the College Democrats, we were able to campaign for multiple candidates in both local and national elections, including; Congressman David Cicilline, Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts, and President Barack Obama. With the success of these three campaigns, my interest in Politics grew tremendously, but needed an outlet here in Newtown. As a recently returning Newtown resident, I have chosen to join and represent the Independent Party of Newtown for multiple reasons. The first is that the Independent Party of Newtown stands for three very important ideals that I believe will enable Newtown to grow with more involvement and comprehension from its residents. As an Independent Party of Newtown member, I will be able to set aside national party interests and focus on what Newtown residents want and need. I believe Newtown has tremendous opportunity to continue to grow its business sector, while maintaining the all-American traditions and appeal that we all love.
